Avalanche Canada Releases First Forecasts of the Winter

Avalanche Canada has released its first avalanche forecasts of the 2024–25 winter, marking the official start to the season for backcountry users across the country. As always in early winter, data is limited and confidence levels are low, making careful terrain choices and firsthand observations more important than ever.

The organization urges anyone heading into the mountains to verify conditions in real time and contribute to the community by submitting a report to the Mountain Information Network (MIN). Early-season MIN posts are already rolling in—a sure sign that winter is underway.

Forecasts are now available at avalanche.ca.

Avalanche Canada has also released its 2024–25 Annual Report, outlining last year’s accomplishments, program expansions, and ongoing initiatives.
