Dave Treadway dies in Crevasse Fall

Dave Treadway is dead after falling into a deep crevasse while skiing in the Pemberton backcountry on Monday, April 15. Dave was a professional freeskier and devoted family man.

Pemberton District Search and Rescue (PSAR) were alerted that a skier had fallen 30 metres in a crevasse fall near Rhododendron Mountain and was unresponsive. A medical and crevasse extraction team rushed to the accident however Dave had succumb to his injuries.

David MacKenzie, head of PSAR, commented, “It was just an unfortunate incident going through unknown terrain,” he noted in a follow-up interview. “There are crevasses all over the backcountry and in the glacial area. Various ones may have an ice bridge over them or something, and some of them can be sight unseen.”

“I would say the depth of the crevasse was paramount to the operation,” he explained. “Having to put in various ice anchors and protection and getting our team down into the crevasse to access the subject was one thing, and then being able to actually rig it back up so that they could be pulled back up to the surface was another.”

A GoFundMe page was launched on Tuesday in support of Treadway’s wife and young children.

Dave was a passionate individual with achievements in the mountains that were only outweighed by his desire to show others the love of God. He did this by serving as a youth leader in his community and by leading as a professional skiing role model.

Dave’s immediate family, including his wife and his three children (ages 6, 2 and unborn) will inevitably face the realities of living without their loving husband and father.

Please help support Dave’s family to help them with this terrible tragedy and future opportunities that he would have surely made happen for the family he loved.

Our sincerest condolences and prayers for his wife Tessa and sons, Kasper and Raffi, during this tragic time. RIP Dave, we will miss you.
