Avalanche Field Team has new Sled

As the Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) prepares for the coming season, one of Canada’s leading snowmobile manufacturers has stepped forward to help out. Today, Yamaha-Motor Canada is delivering a new Yamaha Nytro MTX to the CAC, one of the company’s top-rated mountain snowmobiles.

“Yamaha has been a supporter and sponsor of the CAC for many years and we very much appreciate their leadership in the snowmobiling community,” said Ian Tomm, Executive Director of the CAC. “This new sled will be put to work with our field team in the South Rockies, an area heavily used by mountain snowmobilers. With Yamaha’s help, we are able to provide accurate forecasts and sound travel advice for riders in the Crowsnest Pass, Elk Valley and the Flathead area.”

The South Rockies Field Observer program will provide vital snow and weather obs to the CAC forecasting team. These are both CAC employees. Gord Ohm, Avalanche Field Technican, and David Tracz, Assistant Avalanche Technician are both residents of the Elk Valley. If you sled, you might see them out and about in the snowmobile areas.

Randy Swenson, Regional Manager for Yamaha-Motor Canada Ltd. arranged substantial support for the CAC to purchase this new snowmobile, which was bought through Kelowna Yamaha. “We are proud of our close alignment with the CAC,” said Swenson. “Yamaha was the first snowmobile manufacturer to sponsor the work of the CAC, and we continue to raise money for their snowmobile programs.”

The CAC is a non-profit, non-government agency dedicated to public avalanche safety. Incorporated in 2004, the CAC is funded and supported by a collaboration of federal, provincial and private sector agencies involved in avalanche safety.
