Pacific Group Resorts Acquires SilverStar Mountain Resort
Pacific Group Resorts (PGR) has officially acquired SilverStar Mountain Resort in Vernon, adding one of Canada’s largest family ski areas to its growing North American portfolio.
The deal marks PGR’s third major acquisition in recent years, following Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Colorado earlier in 2025 and Jay Peak Resort in Vermont in 2022. With SilverStar onboard, PGR now operates six mountain resorts.
SilverStar becomes the company’s flagship property by size, offering 133 trails across 3,300 acres of skiable terrain served by 10 lifts. It is one of the 15 largest ski areas in North America.
“SilverStar is an extraordinary resort with a loyal community and a spirit that aligns perfectly with PGR’s values,” said PGR president and CEO Mark K. Fischer. He noted that PGR’s decade of experience operating Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island has given the company a strong understanding of the B.C. mountain landscape. “SilverStar is a natural extension of our resort family and reflects our long-term commitment to embracing mountain culture and the communities that make each of our properties unique.”
Fischer emphasized that SilverStar fits PGR’s strategy of acquiring regional destination resorts with strong local roots, adding that the company hopes to expand the resort’s reach and visibility across Canada and the United States.
SilverStar general manager Herwig Demschar expressed gratitude to Powdr for its years of investment and stewardship. “As we look ahead, we’re excited to join Pacific Group Resorts, whose values and operational philosophy align seamlessly with ours. Our leadership team is staying on, and we look forward to reinforcing what makes SilverStar so special while elevating the guest experience for years to come.”
Powdr CEO Justin Sibley thanked the SilverStar team and Vernon community, calling the mountain “a special place with a passionate following.”
For guests and passholders, PGR says no major operational changes are planned for the 2025–26 season. All existing season passes, programs, and services will continue. Starting next season, PGR passholders will receive five days of access (with blackout dates) at SilverStar, plus 20% off lodging when available.
Powdr initially listed several of its resorts for sale in 2024, including SilverStar, Eldora (Colo.), Mt. Bachelor (Ore.) and Killington/Pico (Vt.). Killington/Pico sold to local investors in 2024, Mt. Bachelor was removed from the market earlier this year, and Nederland, Colorado, is finalizing funding to purchase Eldora through municipal revenue bonds.
For SilverStar, the move to PGR places the resort within a company known for steady, community-integrated operations—something that many longtime Vernon skiers hope will preserve the colourful mid-mountain village, laid-back vibe, and big-mountain skiing that define the resort.
