Parks Canada will continue to deliver services critical for Canadians including highway maintenance, snow removal and avalanche control in Glacier National Park to ensure the continued flow of goods and services to Canadians.

Please stay home to help minimize risks to the public and employees who need to travel and maintain the Trans-Canada Highway through the park. Compliance with parking, access and Winter Permit System closures is essential to ensure that Parks Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces can conduct avalanche control operations in Rogers Pass and maintain the safety and reliability of the national transportation corridor.

Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park is a popular backcountry ski touring destination with an average of 10 m of snowfall a year. In Rogers Pass, explosive artillery fire is regularly used on mountain slopes to protect highway and railway traffic from natural avalanches. The Winter Permit System separates skiers from artillery fire and the resulting avalanches.
