Castle Mountain Resort Celebrates 60 Years with Big Expansion

Castle Mountain Resort will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in style this winter, and the milestone comes with exciting news for powder skiers. The Alberta gem, already known for its authentic vibe, big steep vertical, and deep snow, is about to get even better with a terrain expansion and its first new chairlift in nearly two decades.

The Stagecoach expansion will open up terrain that was once reserved for Castle’s cat-skiing program. Crews have been busy this summer, with foundations poured in August, the drive terminal going up, and helicopters flying concrete to tower sites perched high on Haig Ridge. The new lift—an upgraded Poma detachable quad formerly from Banff Sunshine Village—will climb 1,805 vertical feet over 4,757 feet of line, whisking skiers to the top in just six minutes.

The new terrain pod (above images) is a game-changer, increasing Castle’s lift-serviced skiable acreage by more than 25%. It promises a balanced mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs, plus glades that will quickly become powder-hunting favourites. Access will flow from a new trail off the Huckleberry chair, opening the gates to fresh lines and bigger laps.

For a resort that already boasts 95+ trails, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 2,854 feet, this expansion cements Castle’s place on every powder skier’s bucket list. Add in its reputation for uncrowded slopes, a friendly community, and legendary storm cycles, and the 2025-26 debut of Stagecoach is set to be a defining moment in the resort’s history.

After 60 years of keeping the spirit of skiing alive in the Canadian Rockies, Castle Mountain is showing no signs of slowing down—only speeding up.
