Black Diamond Issues Recall for Recon LT

Black Diamond Issues Recall

Black Diamond Equipment has announced a recall for its Recon LT Avalanche Transceiver and associated avalanche safety sets due to a corrosion issue potentially causing device malfunction. Users of the Recon LT should immediately discontinue use and follow recall instructions provided by Black Diamond.

The recall was initiated following reports indicating that metal contacts within the Recon LT’s switch mechanism could corrode, potentially causing the transceiver to malfunction or shut off unexpectedly. This failure could significantly hinder rescue operations in avalanche scenarios, increasing risks of serious injury or death. Currently, Black Diamond has received six reports relating to this issue but fortunately no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

The affected devices were manufactured and sold between June 1, 2021, and February 14, 2025. Owners can verify if their Recon LT transceiver is affected by checking the serial number range from 2040 to 2321 via Bluetooth connection using the PIEPS app.

Affected products include:

• BD Recon LT Beacon (Style Number: BD151007)

• BD Alpine Avy Safety Set (Style Number: BD151010)

• BD Recon LT Avy Safety Set (Style Number: BD151011)

Black Diamond is offering three solutions to address the recall:

Exchange: Consumers can swap their Recon LT for alternative models such as the Black Diamond Guide BT or Recon X (subject to availability).

Full Refund: Owners may return their device for a full refund with free shipping.
