Al Raine: The Man, The Myth, The Legend
The ski world has lost a giant. Al Raine, a visionary, pioneer, and passionate advocate for mountain communities, has passed away. He was a man who not only imagined what could be but also had the drive and determination to build it, leaving a legacy that will be celebrated for generations.
Al’s story is one of relentless ambition and love for the outdoors. With his partner and fellow legend, Nancy Greene, Al shaped some of Canada’s most iconic ski destinations. Together, they envisioned and created Whistler Village, transforming it from a dream into a world-class resort community. Their efforts laid the foundation for Whistler’s rise to international acclaim, earning it a reputation as one of the finest ski resorts in the world.
But Al wasn’t finished. After Whistler, he and Nancy set their sights on Sun Peaks, turning it into another vibrant ski community. Under their stewardship, Sun Peaks flourished, becoming a haven for skiers, adventurers, and families seeking the magic of mountain life.
Al’s contributions went far beyond bricks, mortar, and ski lifts. He was deeply committed to building communities that thrived both economically and socially. He worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the towns and resorts he touched, championing the people who lived, worked, and played there.
Al Raine was a visionary who saw potential where others saw obstacles, a leader who inspired by example, and a builder who turned dreams into reality. His impact on Canada’s ski culture and mountain communities cannot be overstated.
We are grateful for all he gave—his vision, his dedication, and his boundless energy. Al, you imagined the impossible and made it real. You worked for our success until the very end.
May you rest in peace, and may the mountains always echo with your legacy.
Our thoughts are with Nancy, their family, and the countless lives Al touched along the way. His spirit will forever soar with the snowflakes and whisper through the alpine winds.
