Whitewater Expands into Ymir Bowl

Whitewater Ski Resort is gearing up for an exciting Winter 2024/25 season with the addition of 60 new acres of inbounds terrain in Ymir Bowl. This latest expansion marks a significant milestone in the resort’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the skiing and riding experience in-bounds, offering guests more diverse and challenging runs in a larger playground.

Previously an out-of-bounds area, Ymir Bowl is now part of Whitewater’s patrolled boundary, allowing for greater safety and control over the popular yet risky terrain. The resort’s decision to include the bowl within its official terrain comes after noticing increased skier traffic in the area following the installation of the Raven Lift last season. With some skiers entering Ymir Bowl despite warnings of avalanche risks, Whitewater recognized the need to bring the terrain under its protection to ensure safety.

The expansion introduces four new runs to Whitewater’s trail map, all rated as Black or Double Black, making the new terrain ideal for advanced and expert skiers. The runs—Upper Goat’s, Lower Goat’s, Jann’s Gully, and False Signal—are sure to thrill those looking for steep, technical challenges. In addition to the designated runs, the expanded area offers ample opportunities for freeride and glade skiing.

Whitewater Ski Resort’s management team emphasized that the Ymir Bowl expansion is about more than just growing the terrain; it’s about expanding the sense of community that Whitewater has cultivated for years. “We’re not just growing our mountain, we’re growing our community playground,” said the resort. “This is about creating more space for skiers and riders to explore, connect, and make unforgettable memories.”

With the addition of Ymir Bowl, Whitewater continues to deliver on its reputation for providing thrilling, diverse, and challenging skiing in the heart of the Kootenays. Whether it’s carving through steep gladed trees or tackling adrenaline-pumping runs, this expansion guarantees even more adventure for guests this coming season.

As the resort prepares for the Winter 2024/25 season, skiers and riders can look forward to Whitewater’s continued dedication to providing some of the best terrain in BC, now with even more room to roam. Your winter home just got bigger!

Stay tuned for more updates as Whitewater prepares to welcome adventurers to this exciting new chapter in the Ymir Bowl.
