Backcountry Avalanche Conditions update
Whitewater Ski Resort’s snow safety forecaster Wren McElroy and Ministery of Transportation Senior Avalanche Officer John Buffery discuss the current avalanche conditions in the video below. They address how the recent historical avalanches are running and important information on terrain choices.
With more than 150cms of new snow falling in the last week and a half, there is an incredible amount of load on the persistent weak layers. How these layers are reacting is sporadic, with some releasing to ground with 2-meter crowns and some areas lying dormant. The snowpack is very unpredictable and big terrain should be avoided this season. Be safe, don’t be sorry!
