Early Season Powder Rules

Early season can rule as the best period for powder skiing. The short and cold days of November and December ensure the powder stays dry and the resort crowds…are in the land of tall buildings doing what they do.

And this year is no exception as Western Canada is shaping up for an epic early season. Snow fell early with skiing beginning in late September and getting really good early November. Backcountry skiing has been great for some time and now the ski resorts are beginning to respond!

Whistler announced an earlier opening than planned by jumping the date 13 days to this Saturday. Fernie is considering an earlier preview weekend on November 23rd—it’s not official. Other resorts will follow to assert the message that they all have great conditions!

For those of us seeking endless powder with no crowds, November and early December are our domain. Go get it!
